Kent Steven Labrie, 70, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020, at his home in Sandpoint, Idaho. A reception honoring Kent will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2020, in the Fellowship Hall at the First Presbyterian Church.

Kent was born on July 23, 1949, in Sacramento, California to Harold “Hal” and Helen Labrie. He graduated from C K McClatchy High School in Sacramento in 1967. He and his older brother, Lane, swam competitively for the Park Terrace Swim Club as teens. Kent went on to serve his country in the United States Army, including a tour in Vietnam in 1971-1972. Being a loyal son, he wrote to his parents at least weekly.

In 1974, Kent moved to Sandpoint, where he worked as a lifeguard at Farragut State Park in the summers and as a “liftie” at Schweit-zer Basin Resort in winters. He met Judy Moon working at Schweit-zer and they were married in 1979. Kent went on to work for Bonner General Health for 20 years in the building maintenance department. He also worked for UNICEP and at the public library.

Kent and Judy lived in Vedelwood for 20 years, then East Hope for 17 years before moving back to the city of Sandpoint in 2017.

Kent loved the water and, being artistic, he especially enjoyed drawing. He relished reading, traveling, learning Spanish, landscaping his yard, puttering and could fix anything. He had many adventures traveling including hitchhiking to Central America and riding the rails from Spokane to California. One joy was simply walking through the neighborhood giving treats to the dogs he came across. He was a loving, devoted husband with a helping, generous spirit.

Kent is survived by his wife, Judy Labrie; mother-in-law Susan Moon; sisters-in-law Christine Moon, Cory Cookman, and Sally Moon; brothers-in-law Pat Moon and Brandon Moon; and numerous loved and appreciated nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Lane Labrie; and brother-in-law Pete Moon.

Kent’s favorite local helping organizations were the Panhandle Animal Shelter and Bonner Community Hospice.
