Gonzaga’s Mark Few made the list of 10 semifinalists for the Naismith coach of the year award.
Few led No. 2-ranked Gonzaga to a 29-2 regular-season record, including a 15-1 mark in the WCC. The Zags have won or shared eight consecutive conference titles. Few’s career record is 597-124.
Few and Kentucky’s John Calipari are the only ones among the 10 finalists that have won the award previously. Few was honored in 2017 after guiding the Zags to the national championship game. Calipari won the award three times at three different schools (Massachusetts, Memphis and Kentucky).
The other finalists are Baylor’s Scott Drew, Penn State’s Patrick Chambers, San Diego State’s Brian Dutcher, Dayton’s Anthony Grant, Florida State’s Leonard Hamilton, Creighton’s Greg McDermott, Auburn’s Bruce Pearl and BYU’s Mark Pope.
Neither Few nor Pope won the WCC coach of the year award. That honor went to Pacific’s Damon Stoudamire.
