STATE 3A BOYS: Kellogg falls in opener to defending champion Sugar-Salem

MERIDIAN — Tanner Harris scored 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting for the defending champion Sugar-Salem Diggers in a 63-48 win over the Kellogg Wildcats in the opening round of the state 3A boys basketball tournament on Thursday at Meridian High.

Gavin Luna scored 12 points for Kellogg, which led 13-8 after the first quarter. Sugar-Salem outscored the Wildcats 15-4 in the third quarter after taking a 26-24 halftime lead.

Kellogg (16-7) face Homedale (11-13) in a loser-out game today at 3 p.m.

Crew Clark and Hadley Miller scored 11 points each for Sugar-Salem (18-5), which faces Filer (11-14) in a semifinal game tonight.
