MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — Former Ambassador Nikki Haley on Monday endorsed Kelly Loeffler for the U.S. Senate, saying more conservative women are needed in Washington.

Haley, who served as Trump's U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, made the comments at a rally in Atlanta's suburbs. Loeffler is running in a special election to fill the remaining two years of the six-year term of Johnny Isakson, who retired in December due to health reasons. Gov. Brian Kemp appointed Loeffler to the seat until the special election could be held.

Haley said Loeffler is a political outsider and a businesswoman, and more conservative women are needed in Washington. The United States can't afford former Vice President Joe Biden __ one of the two leading Democratic presidential candidates — if he's elected, Haley said.

“We need someone that’s going to help President Trump fight, that’s why we need Kelly Loeffler,” Haley said.

Kemp "went ahead and picked a conservative woman, which we could use more of those in D.C.,” Haley said.

Loeffler said battling socialism is one of her top priorities. U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is in a close race with Biden for the Democratic nomination, has described himself as a Democratic socialist.

Loeffler vowed that she would help people “achieve their dreams in America, based on capitalism, based on a system that works, that fights socialism and that’s what I’m here to do in Washington."

“I was able to live the American dream, I want that for everyone, but to do that we sadly do have to fight socialism," Loeffler said.

“Now is the time for us to unite against the radical left, that’s what I’m going to do,” she added.

“You're endorsement means the world," Loeffler told Haley.

The special election is scheduled for Nov. 3. Republican Congressman Doug Collins is also in the contest. Collins' campaign had no immediate comment regarding the rally.
