NIC women resume play Friday
The Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament will resume Thursday and Friday at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Ore., North Idaho College officials announced Sunday.
The 16-team tourney was suspended after just three games last Thursday at Everett (Wash.) Community College, when an Everett CC student tested positive for coronavirus and the campus was shut down.
The women’s tourney will move to Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Ore., for the semifinals Saturday and championship game Sunday.
The NWAC men’s tourney, which was scheduled to begin last Saturday at Everett CC, has been moved to Clackamas, starting with the Sweet 16 games on Thursday, and running through the championship game Sunday.
NIC’s women (18-10) beat Lower Columbia 53-50 in a Sweet 16 game last Thursday. The tournament was suspended immediately following that game.
NIC will return to action in the tourney on Friday, facing the winner of Thursday’s game between Everett (15-15) and Umpqua (29-0).
Tourney times had yet to be announced.
The NIC men, who won the East Region, are in the first year of a three-year postseason ban and are not participating in the conference tourney.
