Italian authorities say the number of coronavirus infections in the country has topped the 10,000 mark, hitting 10,149. They say the number of deaths from the virus rose to 631, up from 463 a day earlier. A sweeping lockdown is in place in Italy, with travel restrictions being enforced by soldiers and police.
New York's governor says he is sending National Guard troops to scrub surfaces and deliver food in and around a New York City suburb at the center of the nation's biggest known cluster of coronavirus cases. It's one of the most dramatic actions yet to control the outbreak in the U.S. In California, thousands of passengers aboard a cruise ship struck by the coronavirus are still waiting their turn to leave the vessel and go into quarantine, either in the U.S. or in their home countries.
