Northeast Tri-County Health District has reported that the individual who was tested for COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) has tested negative.
“We are appreciative of the individual’s cooperation during this testing process,” health district officials said in a press release. “This person took immediate precautions and minimized contact with others during the investigation. Likewise, the Colville School District acted proactively to ensure the health of students, staff, and their families. While we are relieved for this individual, we remain vigilant in our attempts to slow the spread of COVID-19.”
As of Tuesday, March 10, 267 people in Washington state have tested positive for COVID-19, and 24 have died of the disease, health district officias said, with the potential for more cases.
However, in Ferry, Pend Oreille (which includes the city of Newport), and Stevens counties, there have been no confirmed cases and no individuals remain under investigation.
For more than 80% of cases, COVID-19 is a mild illness that does not require hospital care. We cannot eliminate COVID-19 but we can limit its spread by washing hands with soap and water frequently, avoiding touching our face (mouth, nose, eyes), staying home when sick until the illness is resolved, covering coughs and sneezes with tissue and washing hands thereafter, and staying away from others who are ill.
