Missing teen is reunited with family

SANDPOINT — A missing or runaway teen from Washington state has been reunited with her family, according to Sandpoint Police.
Police posted an appeal to Facebook on March 5 asking for the public’s help in locating Madison West, a 16-year-old from Spokane. The department updated the post on Tuesday.
“We wish to extend our thanks and appreciation to our wonderful community. With your help, Madison has been located and reunited with her family,” the post said.
A Sandpoint man thought to be in the company of the teen, Michael Edward Johnson, turned up in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Tuesday. Johnson, 21, was wanted on an arrest warrant for allegedly evading supervision in an unrelated domestic violence case.
The warrant against Johnson was served on Monday. It’s not clear in the public record if Johnson surrendered himself or was apprehended.
Johnson is on probation for a felony charge of domestic violence resulting in traumatic injury, an offense which dates back to October of last year. He was accused of punching and kicking a woman during an altercation.
Johnson denied being physical with the woman, although court records indicate she was bleeding from the mouth and coughing up blood.
Johnson was given a suspended two- to five-year prison term and placed on supervised probation for two years. The Idaho Department of Correction moved to revoke Johnson’s probation on March 5. The motion noted that Johnson may have been with the missing teen, but could not be contacted or located at his place of residence, court documents state.
A hearing in which Johnson will either admit or deny the alleged probation violation is set for Monday in 1st District Court.
