Last call to change political parties

Those voters looking to change political parties before the May 19 election have until Friday evening to make up their minds.

Party affiliation is required for the May 19 election and impacts what ballot voters will receive. The party-affiliated ballots in Kootenai County will include candidates for U.S. senator, Idaho’s 1st District U.S. representative seat, state Senate seats, state representative seats, two Kootenai County commissioner seats, the Kootenai County prosecuting attorney’s seat, the county’s sheriff seat and more than a hundred precinct choices between Republican and Democrat central committees.

Other non-partisan questions and candidates can appear on the ballot, but those who wish to vote for particular candidates might need to mark an official affiliation.

Those looking to vote Republican are required to affiliate Republican in the May 19 election. Those looking to vote as a member of the Democratic Party or Constitution Party in the May 19 election must either affiliate with that party or remain unaffiliated.
