SANDPOINT — A total of 6,053 votes were cast in Bonner County’s presidential primary election on Tuesday.

“The voter turnout was approximately 22 percent. We will refine all these numbers for the March 17 canvass,” said Charlie Wurm, a deputy clerk in the Bonner County Elections Office.

Republican voters in Bonner County put their support behind President Donald Trump, while Democrats gave former Vice President Joe Biden the edge over Bernie Sanders in Tuesday’s presidential primary election.

Trump received 3,162 votes in the Republican primary, according to unofficial primary results posted online by the Bonner County Clerk’s Office. Trump won 94.59 percent of the GOP vote in the county. His closest competitor was Bill Weld, who won just 86 votes, or 2.57 percent of the Republican vote. Joe Walsh collected 63 votes (1.88 percent) and Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente received 14 votes (0.42 percent). Bob Ely and Matthew John Matern each received nine votes, which worked out to be 0.27 percent of the vote.
