Schools in Rathdrum and Post Falls will be closed Monday and Tuesday for extensive cleaning to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with plans to reopen Wednesday.
The Post Falls School District announced Sunday that they would be closed both daysfor deep cleaning. The district said the situation is fluid.
Lakeland Joint School District schools will also be closed two days this week with all activities for both districts canceled for Monday and Tuesday.
Both districts said the decision was based on consultation with the Panhandle Health District and state leadership.
There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in either district.
The closure and cleaning are in response to confirmed cases in the surrounding area, wrote Lake Superintendent Dr. Becky Meyer.
Gov. Brad Little said Sunday school districts should decide individually whether or not to close, a precautionary measure to slow the spread of the virus. Coeur d’Alene schools announced last week they would close until March 6.
In Washington, all schools will close Tuesday for six-weeks.
