COEUR d’ALENE — The deadline for filing for the May 19 primary election has passed, and the list of official candidates paints a new picture for county and precinct committee candidates.

The District 1 Commissioner race will be between three Republican candidates: incumbent Bill Brooks along with challengers David Stewart and Nicholas Henderson.

District 2 Commissioner Chris Fillios will run for re-election, this time against fellow Republicans Greg Delevan and Elizabeth Jacobsen.

Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney Barry McHugh will run unopposed as the incumbent for his position this year.

The race for Kootenai County Sheriff became a little more crowded than usual in the closing days of the window to declare. Four Republicans — Kim Edmonson, John Grimm, Robert “Bob” Norris and Richard “Rick” Whitehead — will face off in the May 19 primary election, while Mike Bauer (running as an independent) and Justin Nagel (running as a Libertarian) will join the Republican nominee in the November general election.

John Green, the former Idaho House legislator removed from office after his January conviction in federal court, made his declaration within the filing window, but Kootenai County clerk Jim Brannon said that, while he received Green’s paperwork, he has not yet accepted them, choosing instead to refer the matter to the Idaho Secretary of State’s office.

Sixteen candidates filed for precinct seats on the Kootenai County Democratic Central Committee, none of whom are opposing one another. Evan Koch filed his candidacy (for the committee’s 1st seat) along with Geraldine Douglas (8), Sheila Gary (16), interim chair Laura Tenneson (18), Christopher Matthews (24), Ronald Johnson (31), Savannagh Kacey (34), Coralyn Alexander (36), Janet Callen (45), Jan Studer (50), Debbie Melzer Brodsky (51), Mary Foster (52), Philip Ward (54), Cindy Algeo (55), Beverly Moss (60), Paula Marano (62) and Thomas Hearn (68).

Thirteen Kootenai County Republican precinct races, meanwhile, will offer at least a chance to be competitive. Michael Barnes and Deborah Rose will vie for the committee’s 2 seat.

Both Bob Thornton and Melanie Vande Feer are running for seat 3.

Robyn Edwards, Michael Jehnichen and Walt Meyer will all compete for seat 4.

Scott Beckett and G. Kirk David will compete for seat 6.

Robert Bierman and John Huizinga are both running for the committee’s 13th seat.

Robert Brooke, Craig Mueller and Kellie Palm are all running for the same 16th seat.

Jason Clark and Karen Kastning are both running for the 18th seat.

Duane Rasmussen and Matthew Wilson will compete for the 19th seat.

Karl Llewellyn and Ian Meredith are both running for the 27th committee seat.

Jacob Garretson and Conrad Woodall will square off for the 32nd seat.

Terry Funk and Roger Garlock are both running for seat 45.

Dan Gookin and Zoe Ann Thruman are both competing for Precinct 54’s seat.

Last but not least, Richard Meyer and Bev Twillmann are running for the committee’s 70th and final seat.

Charles Bernhard (seat 1), Brad Davis (5), Hendrik Mills (7) Michael M. Scott (8), Lori Theander (9), Jeremiah Schreindl (10), Phillip Thompson (11), Jody Gehlker (12), Don Bradway (14), Michael Towan (15), Robin Gray (17), Paut Mitchell (21), Mike Satren (22), Nathan Tull (23), Jeff Populus (24), David Kimball (25), Michael P.
