Two young boys and their father were found dead inside a Polson home on Monday in what law officers said was a murder-suicide.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell identified 49-year-old Matthew Alan Pruchnik as the man who authorities suspect intentionally killed the children and himself by carbon monoxide poisoning in their home on Lakeview Drive, possibly on Friday, March 13.

His sons were identified as 7-year-old Liam Bradly Pruchnik and 5-year-old Levi Kazio Pruchnik.

Lake County authorities suspect the motive is related to an impending divorce and custody dispute with the mother of the children. Deputies had arrested Matthew Pruchnik on charges related to domestic violence back in August of 2017.

According to Bell, deputies were dispatched to a home outside of Polson at around 2:30 p.m. on March 16 for a report of suspicious activity. Upon their investigation, the bodies of one adult male and two young children were discovered in the single-family home.

Bell said the incident is under investigation.

The bodies were transported to the Montana State Crime Lab for autopsy.
