Events postponed or canceled include:

• NIC announced Thursday that unless an event can be conducted virtually, all scheduled events through April 30 are being canceled or rescheduled to a future date. Evaluation will continue for events scheduled after April 30, NIC officials said in a press release.

While NIC is taking these actions out of an abundance of caution, the college is not closing its main campus or its other facilities/locations nor suspending operations at this time. Currently, this includes continued operations of NIC residence halls and dining services.

• The Pend Oreille Arts Council announced on Thursday it postponing a “A Little Bit Off” by Beau & Aero, a theatrical circus entertainment show set for Saturday.

• The Newport Area Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday it was postponing its annual gala is being postponed until fall due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The decision follows advice by the North East Tri County Health District and Newport Hospital & Health Services advising against any non-essential public gatherings. Additionally, NHHS administration has advised its staff to avoid attending such gatherings in an effort to protect the hospital’s vulnerable populations.

“That information along with many of our concerned guests have led us to determine that the event should be postponed,” Jason Totland, president of the Greater Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, said.

The Kalispel Tribe has been instrumental in the planning of this event and its rescheduling. “We cannot thank them enough for the support they have shown the community and the Newport Area Chamber,” Tolland said.

Any ticket purchases may be refunded or held onto for the event date in the Fall. We will reschedule the Gala and provide an update as soon as possible.

• Albeni Falls Dam is closing its visitor center to the public effective March 14 through April 13, following the lead of federal and state health and government officials as a measure to help slow the spread of the novel coronavirus in the region.
