Fremont DMV asking drivers to make an appoint or renew licenses online

ST. ANTHONY - The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents needing to renew their driver’s licenses do so by appointment only starting tomorrow.
Such may be required for the foreseeable future in light of the COVID-19 virus, and the efforts government officials are making to limit interaction between people. The hope is to help stop the spread of the virus.
It is also now possible to renew a driver’s license on line. The Idaho Transportation Department recently created that ability and sent out postcards announcing the change to those whose licenses are expected to expire in the upcoming weeks.
For those who want a “Star Card” that will serve as another form of identification to board a plane, enter a federal building or access a military base, should be secured at Department of Motor Vehicle’s office. This needs to be done in person by Oct. 1, 2020.
Should residents opt to renew their driver’s licenses on line, they’ll need to create an account, provide their social security number, the correct name as listed on their driver’s license and their birthdate.
The webpage also asks those reapplying for a new driver’s license for their correct name and if a name change is necessary. It will also request current address information. The webpage asks if those reapplying would like to donate $2 for “donor awareness,” if they are a U.S. resident and whether they are also an Idaho resident.
From there the webpage charges $31.96 for a license or $33.96 if they opt to donate $2 for organ awareness.
ITD will use the driver’s previous driver’s license photo on their new license.
“We encourage renewals online, but if that is not possible, an appointment may be made by calling 208-624-4482,” said the Sheriff’s Office in a press release.
