Mullan schools to close, Wallace remains open

MULLAN –– Mullan School District superintendent Les Wells announced on Tuesday afternoon that the district will be closing due to concerns surrounding COVID-19.
According to Wells, the schools will be in session on Wednesday, March 18, but will then close until at least Monday, April 6.
The decision was made Tuesday afternoon by the Mullan School Board of Trustees.
This decision comes after the Kellogg School District announced on Monday that they would be closing.
This also means the Wallace School District is currently the only school district in Shoshone County that hasn’t closed or made plans to close.
The WSD gave a statement on Tuesday afternoon in the form of a press release saying that they plan on continuing to monitor the situation before making any decision.
“The immediate issues that we are reviewing are the communications from the experts including the Governor’s office and the medical people that he is consulting with,” the release said. “Furthermore, we know that there are no confirmed cases in Shoshone County, that there are very limited day care facilities in Shoshone County, that short term closures have been determined as ineffective and that we know that these are very fluid times. We will continue to be informed and do what is best for children and learning.”
