MOSES LAKE - Some businesses in Moses Lake are being reported for allegedly refusing to abide by Governor Jay Inslee’s emergency proclamation issued Monday that ordered that all restaurants, bars, entertainment and recreational facilities to close, according to the Moses Lake Police Department.

“Understanding that this is a difficult but necessary decision, we would ask that every establishment listed in the emergency proclamation to please follow the mandates of Governor Inslee,” the MLPD wrote on social media. “Our goal is to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus and taking the steps outlined in the emergency proclamation will do just that.”

If businesses continue to defy the order, which extends until at least March 31, local police will issue a verbal warning - and those that continue regardless may be issued a misdemeanor citation authorized by the Grant County Health District.

“We recognize the situation is very dire for our small businesses, however the goal of (the) emergency proclamation is to slow the spread of the virus and for voluntary compliance to the emergency proclamation,” the MLPD wrote.

“We hope to not issue criminal violations, however due to the situation, it may be required.”
