The Kalispell City Council met virtually Monday evening to discuss a few items of business via conference calls. The city postponed its vote on updates to city utility rates and impact fees for tentative consideration on April 6. A work session scheduled for Monday, March 23, has been canceled.
All of the council members called into the meeting through video calls in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The chairs at the meeting were also spread out to maintain social distance, and only three members of the public attended the meeting in person.
The main topic at the meeting was a zone change request from the Montana Department of Transportation for property at 672/680 Two Mile Drive. At a previous meeting on March 2, numerous residents of the nearby Greenbriar neighborhood voiced public comments in opposition to the zone change, citing concerns about safety on Two Mile Drive and the possibility of building an apartment on the property.
Another resident spoke against the zone change Monday.
The council approved the second reading of the request to zone the property R-4 (Single Family Residential). Councilmember Sid Daoud was the lone vote against the zone change.
The council also unanimously approved a handful of bid awards in order to make sure the contractors are paid and able to complete their work in spite of the disruptions from the coronavirus outbreak.
The council is tentatively scheduled to meet again at 7 p.m. on April 6 in the City Council Chambers, 201 First Ave. E.
