COEUR D’ALENE — Safe Passage Violence Prevention Center remains open to serve those in need — but the nonprofit needs support to continue serving some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

Safe Passage’s shelter is running low on essentials. The nonprofit needs donations, especially items like cleaning supplies, toilet paper and hand sanitizer.

“We have been unable to keep up with the demand, as when we get to the stores, they are very low on supplies,” said Safe Passage Executive Director Chauntelle Lieske.

The COVID-19 crisis has also led to Safe Passage taking on unpredicted costs. Donations help ensure that Safe Passage can continue to help survivors during uncertain times.

Research shows that domestic violence rates increase during times of crisis.

“Now we are asking many survivors to further isolate themselves in their homes with their abusers,” Lieske said.

For that reason, Lieske said, it’s crucial that survivors know that Safe Passage is available and ready to serve those in need.

Community support makes a big difference during challenging times.

Donations can be dropped off at Safe Passage’s offie at 850 N. 4th Street in Coeur d’Alene, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
