GRANT COUNTY - There were 44 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Grant County as of Friday evening, including two new cases in Mattawa and three in Quincy, according to the Grant County Health District.

Of those 44 cases, four are currently hospitalized. There are also 34 "probable" cases, according to the health district.

Quincy has been the epicenter of the outbreak in the county, with 25 confirmed cases total.

Confirmed cases have surged there since the first case was reported in early March, with a number of cases stemming from Quincy High School, whose students and staff have all been placed under house quarantine.

Mattawa’s two new cases bring its total to eight, higher than Moses Lake and Ephrata, which have six and four confirmed cases respectively.

Royal City continued to report only one confirmed case as of Friday evening.

In addition to tests that have come back positive, 180 have come back negative. There are an estimated 165 tests that are still pending results, according to the health district. However, hospitals have reported that this estimate is an undercount.

The Grant County Health District will be working to identify and call close contacts of those who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to a statement on their website.
