Trestle Creek marina plan resurfaces

HOPE — A marina plan on Lake Pend Oreille at Trestle Creek is resurfacing.
Operators of the Idaho Club said they have obtained preliminary approval for a 110-slip marina for use of club residents.
The former owners of the Idaho Club planned a 109-unit resort composed of townhouses, several condominium complexes and a dozen single-family residences in 2008, but the plan never came to fruition amid a downturn in high-end real estate and a change in club ownership.
The former project was the subject of intense debate at the time, with supporters contending it would result in the installation of a high-end sewer system and other shoreline enhancements meant to reduce nutrient loading in the lake.
Opponents of the project maintained that the project would jeopardize wetland habitat with dense housing.
Bill Haberman, president of the Idaho Club, said the marina component of the plan is moving forward.
“We are working through the planning process for that parcel, but we have preliminary approval for 110 boat slips, a boat launch and a lake amenity building,” Haberman said.
The density of the project is also being scaled back from its original design.
“It’s really going to be a private marina more than it is residential (development) or the other plans the predecessors had,” Haberman said.
Haberman said some of the club’s property at Trestle Creek was divided into a half-dozen estate lots on the lake.
“We sold those within six months. They were very popular,” he said.
