MOSES LAKE — Washington state parks remain closed statewide after being shut down last week in response to Gov. Jay Inslee’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order to protect against further spread of COVID-19. The temporary closure affects all state-managed parks, wildlife areas, and water access areas for at least two weeks, beginning March 25.

Gates and facilities are closed, according to a March 24 press release from the Washington State Parks Department. On-site public services are suspended, while essential park staff members will remain on location to preserve and protect the land and its resources.

State campgrounds across Washington had been closed, through April 30, two days prior to the park closures. Campers with reservations at state parks now through April 30 will be given refunds.

Hunting seasons currently underway will not be impacted by COVID-19 restrictions, according to information provided by the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, although significant travel isn’t advised at this time. WDFW also closed recreational fishing and shell-fishing statewide between midnight March 25 and at least 5 p.m. on April 8. Aquatic Invasive Species check stations will remain active through the closures, with WDFW inspecting watercraft for invasive species.
