COVID-19 cases stay static in the county

SANDPOINT — No new cases of novel coronavirus emerged in Bonner County on Thursday or Friday, according to the Panhandle Health District.

One new case turned up in Kootenai County on Thursday, bringing regional total to 66. Bonner County cases account for four of them.

The virus, which causes COVID-19, has not been detected in Boundary, Shoshone or Benewah counties, the health district said.

Broken down by age, 31 of the cases involve people between the ages of 19-49 and 26 involve people age 50 and older. Nine of the cases involve minors, according to PHD.

Broken down by gender, 38 cases involve males and 28 involve women, the health district said.

Forty-eight Panhandle residents are no longer being monitored and the virus has led to five hospitalization, the health district said.

The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare reported on Thursday that 20 new confirmed or probable cases of coronavirus, pushing the statewide case total to 2,035. The death toll climbed to 63.

Idahoans who are out of work and have exhausted regular unemployment insurance benefits can now apply for extended benefits under the CARES Act online (labor.idaho.gov/claimantportal), the Idaho Department of Labor announced on Thursday.

Changes made by the department to its system will add an additional 13 weeks to an eligible claimant’s unemployment benefit year. To qualify, a claimant must have a claim with a benefit year ending date after July 6, 2019.

The payments are retroactive to March 29 or the first week after an individual exhausts benefits, whichever is later, the department said.

There were no new confirmed cases Thursday or Friday in Pend Oreille, Stevens or Ferry counties, according to the Northeast Tri-County Health District. Pend Oreille County has two cases, while Ferry and Stevens counties have nine cases and one case, respectively.

No new confirmed cases were reported Friday in Montana, which has a total of 453, according to state public health officials. There are seven cases in Lincoln County and zero in Sanders County, sums which have remained static for days.
