SANDPOINT — In Sandpoint and in tens of thousands of other communities, prayer events are planned across the country on Thursday, May 7, in honor of the 68th annual National Day of Prayer. All across the country, people will be praying for the nation, government leaders, media, military, schools, churches, business and families.
Due to coronavirus restrictions, the local National Day of Prayer observance will be livestreamed on Facebook this year. At noon on May 7, go to Pray 7B Facebook page or pray7b.org to join many local Christians in prayer. This year’s theme is “God’s Glory across the earth” from Habakkuk 2:14.
“Our country and our world, needs prayer now more than ever,” local organizer Janine Shepard said.
The group will continue its Adopt-a-Cop program, where we will ask residents to Adopt-a-Cop and pray for them regularly. We want to show our extreme gratitude to our law enforcement for the work they do to keep us safe every day. “If you are in law enforcement or know anyone who is, please invite them to this event so we can pray and bless them,” Shepard said, adding there is a place to “adopt” local law enforcement, government officials and schools at pray7b.org.
“At this crucial time for our nation, we can do nothing more important than pray,” she sadi. “Thank you in advance for making this spiritual discipline a personal priority and for standing with us as we encourage others to incorporate prayer into their lives. The Lord has graciously anointed our efforts, empowering them to touch and change many hearts and lives. We look forward to seeing His hand move across our land in exciting ways each May in response to our petitions.”
Congress established the National Day of Prayer in 1952. This observance is held the first Thursday each May.
