MOSES LAKE — Will I be OK for retirement?
This is what Edward Jones Financial Advisor James Shank is hearing from his clients as they react to news about the economic efforts of the coronavirus pandemic.
Many people have put together a good retirement plan. All of a sudden, “this hits,” Shank said.
With the market’s challenges, people want to know if they will still be all right. Will they need to get a job to supplement their retirement income?
As people review their finances and adjust their retirement planning strategies, it is critical to take health care into consideration.
Shank’s online talk titled “Health Care and your Retirement” can be heard at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, May 13. For dial-in or web access instructions go to https://www.cityofml.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=891.
Many people think their retirement savings will adequate, Shank said, but some people want to retire as early as age 61 or 62 and won’t have access to Medicare yet. They will need funds to tide them over, and Medicare doesn’t take care of everything.
It is never too early to start retirement planning, he said. People who are ages 25, 55 or 75 consistently tell him they feel a little late to the game. Shenk emphasized having a goal in mind and a plan put together to reach that goal. Health care and retirement are inseparable, he said, because if people who don’t have good health care either spend their money on health problems or don’t have good enough health to enjoy retirement.
