EXCHANGE-CERRO GRANDE FIRE

LOS ALAMOS, N.M. — A wall of flames snaking north along the edge of Los Alamos ignited thickets and set houses ablaze in an inferno that would sear itself into the community’s collective memory. May 10, 2000, was the day the wind-driven Cerro Grande Fire roared into Los Alamos, destroying 235 homes and displacing more than 400 people. FBC--VIRUS OUTBREAK-COLLEGE FOOTBALL

SAN DIEGO — The California State University system’s plan for a mostly virtual fall semester doesn’t necessarily close the door on football at the three schools that play in the far-flung Mountain West Conference. San Diego State is looking at having football players return to campus no earlier than July 7 and is making plans to play the season as scheduled, athletic director J.D. Wicker said. CAR--NASCAR-DARLINGTON

DARLINGTON, S.C. — NASCAR becomes one of the first major sporting leagues to resume competition with a race at Darlington Raceway. There will be no spectators and strict safety regulations set by NASCAR. The race marks the return of Ryan Newman, who suffered a head injury when he crashed racing for the win on the final lap of the Daytona 500.
