Pandemic doesn’t put brakes on Old School House Rock car show

A popular family summer event that recently made the ‘COVID-19 Cut’ is taking place Saturday, June 6.
From 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. the Old School House Rock Car Show will be held for the 21st time.
The main hub of activity will be on the front lawn of the Mineral County Courthouse in Superior with overflow entries on the Trail West Bank lawn and the field next to them.
Classic cars, classic trucks, classic camper combos and then open class make up a big percentage of the 26 categories and if you didn’t remember, this is open to ALL cars and trucks.
The biggest (only) car show in Mineral County will have food vendors, door prizes, a 50-50 cash award and be-bopping’ music all day long from Johnny-T and his Time Machine.
Requests of your favorite oldies are welcome because this is a ‘time-warp day’ when the Holly 4-barrel pumpers, Crager wheels, Hurst shifters and 351 BOSS engines were king!
At 3:30 p.m. the awards will be presented to the winners of each category followed by the door prizes and then the 50-50 ticket winner. Expect lots of laughter and ribbing from other contestants when the trophies are handed out as this group enjoys each other’s company and admires the time that everyone has invested that makes these first-class rides.
But the cherry on top is when the committee awards a high school senior from each of the three county schools a $500 scholarship.
This is one of the main reasons this car show exists - to give back to the community by helping its younger residents.
What will be different is there will be no out of state entries. Social distancing is requested. If you are entering a vehicle for competition, your temperature will be taken.
Sanitation stations will be visible and if you have a compromised immune system it is recommended that you do not attend. Finally, face masks are suggested but will not be required.
“It was nip and tuck up until May 19 if we were even going to be able to have it this year, so we can live with these adjustments” said Mike Curtin, chairman of the show.

The Trail Rail Run is the same day in St. Regis so cross your fingers for a beautiful day of weather to make two signature events of County 54 even more spectacular.

Flag retirement ceremony held in St. Regis
