OLYMPIA — State park visitors won’t need a Discover Pass for day-use excursions three days in June, according to a press release from the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission.

The agency is offering a trio of free days next month: Saturday, June 6, in recognition of National Trails Day; Sunday, June 7, as part of Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Free Fishing Weekend; and Saturday, June 13, to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day.

Most Washington state parks are now open for day use; however, the agency detailed measures to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 in its press release. Those measures include staying close to home; knowing what’s open before leaving; having a Plan B if a certain park is too crowded; keeping a social distance of six feet between households at viewpoints; picnic shelters and restrooms; bringing personal supplies like soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper and face coverings and packing out what is packed in.

The two free days in April lost to COVID-19 closures will also be made up, the agency stated.
