SANDPOINT — Two new cases of novel coronavirus have surfaced in Bonner County and five cases are still being researched to determine their primary county of residence, the Panhandle Health District said on Friday.
Bonner County Emergency Management’s operations center said one of the new cases involves a woman in her 70s who is self-isolating at home. Information on the second new case was not available on Friday.
The health district said it’s still unclear if the two new cases are a result of community spread.
All told, the Panhandle Health District has 82 cases of the virus, which causes COVID-19. There are six known cases in Bonner County, 67 cases in Kootenai County and four cases in Benewah County. Neither Boundary County nor Shoshone County have confirmed cases of coronavirus, the health district said.
The virus has caused seven hospitalizations and 68 people are no longer being monitored, according to PHD.
The health district said it is working with the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and the tribe’s Marimn Health & Wellness Center in Plummer to conduct additional testing and contact tracing training. The triad is working to determine the primary county of residence of the five infected people.
“We realize incomplete information can be frustrating and we ask for your patience and understanding,” the health district said in a post to its Facebook page.
The health district said nine individuals who tested at Marimn Health came up positive for the virus. Four of those individuals have been confirmed as Benewah County residents.
“You do not have to be a Benewah County resident or a member of the tribe to be tested at Marimn, so we cannot assume that the other five cases are residents of that county,” the district said in the social media post.
Today marks the entry into Stage 3 of Gov. Little’s Stay Healthy order, which allows for the reopening of bars, pools and indoor cinemas. Stage 4, the final stage of reopening, is scheduled to go into effect on June 12 if there is no significant increase in cases and other reopening criteria are met. The final stage allows for public and private gatherings of more than 50 people, nightclub reopening, visits to senior living facilities and congregate facilities such as jails and prisons. Sporting venues would also reopen in Stage 4.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare reported on Friday there were 34 new confirmed or probable cases of the virus, pushing the statewide total to 2,803 cases. The deaths of 82 people are attributed to the virus.
Women and young Idahoans have been impacted the most by the coronavirus, according to Health & Welfare. There are 611 cases involve 18- to 29-year-olds. There are approximately 400 cases in the three age groups leading up to the age of 59. The virus has afflicted 1,534 women, compared to 1,262 men.
The Northeast Tri-County Health District in Washington state said a new case of the virus emerged in Stevens County, brining the total to 15 cases. Stevens County has 11 cases, while Pend Oreille and Ferry County have three cases and one case, respectively.
The state of Montana recorded eight new cases of coronavirus on Friday, nudging the statewide total to 493 confirmed cases. Lincoln County has seven cases, while Sanders County has none, according to the Montana Department of Public Health.
