Western Montana will plunge into another winter storm event this weekend after hitting record-high temperatures on Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Missoula reported temperatures in the 60s region wide Thursday, with Missoula climbing to 70 for a new daily record.

Another warm and windy day is on tap Friday before a change to cold and snowy weather.

Snow will begin falling in Glacier National Park and over Marias Pass along U.S. 2 on Friday evening. The snow level is expected to rapidly drop from north to south overnight and into Saturday.

Sunday will be the main event, with 1-3 inches of snow at all valley locations, and 4-8 inches in the mountains. Marias Pass will be the big winner with over a foot of snow possible.

The quick-hitting weather event will wrap up Sunday evening, but cold air will linger. Low temperatures in Kalispell on Sunday night will dip into the low teens.

Another chance of snow is in the forecast for Tuesday and Veterans Day.

“Plan for well below normal temperatures to persist through all of next week,” the National Weather Service stated in its daily forecast Thursday. “Today`s probably the last near 60 degree day for a while.”
