MOSES LAKE — Two men were arrested Oct. 28 after an armed carjacking that led to a pursuit west of Moses Lake, according to law enforcement. News of the arrest was delayed during the investigation, police wrote Monday night.
The carjacking victim called police around 7:20 a.m. last Wednesday and notified deputies that their car had been stolen at gunpoint at the 12000 block of Road 6 Northwest.
The victim claimed to be approached by two men in a red Dodge Charger-type vehicle, one of whom reportedly pointed a firearm at the victim, and the Charger’s passenger then drove away in the victim’s car, a black 2002 Honda.
A large number of law enforcement officers searched the area for the stolen sedan, which was driven by one of the suspects, later identified by law enforcement as 35-year-old Martin Juarez.
The Honda was later spotted on the North Frontage Road near Road E Northeast. Sheriff’s deputies, Moses Lake police and Washington state troopers pursued the Honda for several miles, during which several citizens were forced off the road by Juarez, according to law enforcement.
The pursuit ended when the Honda collided with a sheriff’s SUV near Roads 3 and E Northeast in Mae Valley, and Juarez was taken into custody, according to law enforcement. Juarez was checked for injuries by AMR paramedics before being lodged in the Grant County jail on suspicion of first-degree robbery, attempting to elude police, resisting arrest, obstructing a law enforcement officer, as well as an outstanding felony warrant.
No deputies were hurt in the pursuit, according to law enforcement.
Moses Lake police later found a Dodge Charger partially hidden at a home on Dusty Street in Moses Lake that matched the description of the vehicle driven by the assailants. At that home, law enforcement arrested 41-year-old Elizar Ramos, who is believed to have been the driver of the Dodge Charger during the robbery, according to a statement by law enforcement. Ramos was arrested on charges of first-degree robbery.
Around 30 sheriff’s deputies, Moses Lake police officers and Washington state troopers were involved in the pursuit. MACC dispatchers coordinated the three agencies involved in the incident.
Because Grant County Sheriff’s Office vehicles were involved in a collision with the Honda, the Washington State Patrol is investigating that collision, according to a statement.
