COEUR d’ALENE — A man is in jail after police said he threatened a woman with a knife.

Brandon E. Duval, 20, is charged with aggravated assault, a felony.

Police responded Monday to a report of a family dispute at a Coeur d’Alene residence. A woman who identified herself as a friend of Duval’s mother said she was visiting the residence when Duval became agitated.

She told police that Duval threatened to kill her and her son, with whom he had reportedly argued the day before.

The woman said Duval was holding a butter knife when he made the statements, according to court documents. She said she felt fear that Duval would actually stab her. The two were reportedly about 15 feet apart during the dispute.

Duval was at the residence when police arrived. According to police, he said the dispute was only verbal and denied grabbing or holding a knife.

Police arrested Duval at the scene.

Judge James Stow ordered that Duval be held on $20,000 bail and issued a no-contact order between Duval and the woman.
