EPHRATA — A Quincy man previously convicted of felonies has been sentenced to 31 months in prison after pleading guilty in a case that involved shooting at a man who had shot at his car and picking up the casings to hide evidence from the police.

Javier Romas Ramirez, 23, pleaded guilty to first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm with a serious prior felony, possession of a controlled substance, and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the early 2019 incident.

Police were originally dispatched to Quincy Valley Hospital on March 10, 2019, for a report of a man, Oscar Valadez Perez, who had arrived with a gunshot wound in the leg. After an initial investigation, police acquired surveillance footage that reportedly showed Perez had been involved in a drive-by shooting the night before, having driven into the area of Third Avenue and J Street Northeast and shot at a parked, unoccupied Cadillac belonging to Ramirez just after 1 a.m., according to court documents.

Surveillance footage then showed Ramirez stick a gun out of a residence window and shoot back at Perez, striking him once in the leg, according to police records. Ramirez then reportedly looked around at the ground near where he had fired his weapon and cleared the area of spent shell casings, for which he was charged with tampering with physical evidence.

Ramirez was convicted in 2016 of second- and third-degree assault, both with weapons modifiers.
