On Nov. 10, 2020, Janelle Stimson was peacefully delivered to the arms of her Lord. She is deeply loved by her family and will be missed by so many in her community.

She was born in Glasgow, Mont., on Dec. 15, 1946, to Vern and Naoma Kalstad, the second child of four. Her family moved several times, so Janelle grew up in Montana, Washington and Idaho. After she graduated in 1964 from Davis High School in Yakima, Janelle attended beauty school and worked as a beautician. Janelle craved more education, so she moved to Idaho and attended the University of Idaho, graduating with a teaching certification and a B.A. in special education. She married and taught special education in Longview, Wash., until the birth of her son, Colin SueWing, and later, she taught in Kellogg, Idaho. In 1991, Janelle got re-married to Monty Stimson, building a close, loving family for her son, Colin.

Because her father and brother were both in the military, Janelle was devoted to veterans. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and Disabled American Veterans, serving as state commander in 2013. She was also a member of Real Life Ministries Church. In her spare time, Janelle studied genealogy and enjoyed many hobbies, including antiques, and she was also on a bowling league. She collected cream pitchers, salt and pepper shakers and anything Elvis! Reading, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles filled her moments of relaxation.

Janelle is survived by her devoted husband, Monty Stimson; her loving son, Colin, and his wife, Brianne; also, sisters Sharyn (and Don Turner) and Barbara (and John Shultz); and brother, Mike (and Sandy) Kalstad; along with many nieces and nephews.

Janelle faced many health challenges in her life, but she met all of them with remarkable strength and grace. She will be so greatly missed and forever loved. The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice for their care and support during Janelle’s final days with us.

Services will be held at Yates Funeral Home – Coeur d’Alene Chapel, 744 N. Fourth St., on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020, with a viewing at 1 p.m. and the funeral service at 2 p.m. The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23, 2020, at Forest Cemetery.

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements. Please visit Janelle’s online memorial and sign her guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com
