BONNERS FERRY — The Bonners Ferry Turkey Trot 5K and 10K race will take place Thanksgiving morning for the 12th year in a row. The race will start and finish at the Boundary County Fairgrounds.

“This event started as our ‘Second Helping’ run for the day,” said Carolyn Testa. “And now that we’re in our 12th year, it’s become a tradition for lots of individuals and families. We’ve grown from 50 runners our first year to just over 200 last year and end up with about five full food barrels for our local food bank.”

The race will begin at 9 a.m. and the routes down Riverside Road to the 5K turnaround, past Mirror Lake Road, will all be marked with cones. There will also be a water station for runners right around the 5K turnaround.

“It’s a great way to earn your second piece of pie before 10 a.m.,” Testa said.

As usual, food will be aplenty at the Turkey Trot. There will be pumpkin pie, hot chocolate and coffee from Under the Sun at the finish line, prizes of frozen turkeys, Indian corn arrangements donated by Jim Cadnum, and plenty of gifts from Iron Mike’s Gym, Under the Sun, Dr. Hank Willis and Compass Grille.

Before the race there will be a burn barrel, and music will be played throughout the race courtesy of a sound system provided by Forerunner Entertainment.

The race is timed and is free to all participants; no registration is required. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to the local food bank. Any questions can be directed to Carolyn Testa at (208) 290-7039.
