The construction barriers and fencing are all down and the vision is taking shape. Road access to the public parking adjacent the children’s playground and walking paths is now open. This Sunday, the Playground had almost 10 children exploring this expansive and unique play area.

The dog park is also up and running (dogs at least) adjacent to the river, with a few brave pups bounding in for a dip.

I chatted with several couples strolling and admiring their now accessible river. I even talked to a formerly skeptical public hearing participant who is jubilant at the outcome near his apartment.

Joggers on the Centennial Trail found their way to the river and headed west to Mill River. On this sunny day in mid-November, a broad range of our citizens were engaging healthfully in the open air.

Many thanks to the city of Coeur d’Alene for purchasing the land to open up waterfront to the public; for Welch-Comer assembling the design vision along with the in-house planners and committees that united to achieve a park and lifestyle for many generations; for La Riviere Construction delivering a well-crafted and timely result. Finally, it is a tangible outcome to excite ignite cda and developers to pick up the torch for active city living by the water.

Kudos to all and especially the city of Coeur d’Alene.
