Devin Weeks is a third-generation North Idaho resident. She holds an associate degree in journalism from North Idaho College and a bachelor's in communication arts from Lewis-Clark State College Coeur d'Alene. COEUR d’ALENE — Twenty vendors will be on site in The Coeur d'Alene Resort this weekend during the inaugural Holiday Marketplace.
Guests will find everything from skin care products and jewelry to handicrafts, cake balls, sea glass, birdhouses, wreaths, handmade leather items and more. Concessions and festive cocktails will also add to the magic.
“There’s definitely a good variety,” Resort marketing director Amy VanSickle said Tuesday.
She said because so many events have become virtual this year, "we really wanted to offer a small opportunity to feature local craftsmen and local vendors."
"It’s a really great way to promote shopping locally and help those local vendors out," VanSickle said.
Ornament-making stations will be set up for kids, depending on availability.
The Holiday Marketplace will be held in the convention center. Admission is free and open to a limited number of guests with COVID safety measures in place.

Friday — noon to 6 p.m.
Saturday — 9 a.m. — 6 p.m.
Sunday — 9 a.m. — 3 p.m.

The Center for New Directions at North Idaho College primarily serves single parents and displaced homemakers in the community who have returned to school to improve their lives through education. The majority of these clients are single mothers. "Our program is unique because we walk alongside our active participants," Center for New Directions coordinator Louisa Rogers said Monday. "We get to know them really well, and we become part of their support system. When things come up that could derail their journey forward, that is where Christmas for All comes in."

American Legion working to install military markers for Civil War, WWI soldiers
Soldiers who fought in the Civil War and World War I are buried in the Mica Peak Cemetery without proper markers honoring their military service. Members of the Coeur d'Alene American Legion are working to ensure this is no longer the case. "These guys have languished for quite a while without gravestones or anything," Post 14 Adjutant Jerry Staub said during an Oct. 30 interview. "In one case there's no marker at all."
