Matchwood holds celebrations for third annual Powers of Gratitude event
RACHEL SUN | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 5 years AGO
Matchwood Brewing Company is holding its third annual Powers of Gratitude event with some COVID-19 modifications today from 4 to 8 p.m.
Events will start off with the lighting of the outdoor “Gratitude Tree” at 4 p.m., followed by a performance livestreamed on Facebook by local band The Powers at 5:30 p.m., according to a press release from the Brewery.
Andrea Marcoccio, the owner of Matchwood, said while the tree is usually indoors it will be outdoors this year to help keep people safe. The tree will be up through the end of the year for visitors to stop by, she said.
The event was started three years ago to celebrate the brewery’s thankfulness to the community, she said.
“We thought it would be good to reflect on the gratitude we had to the community,” she said.
Participants are encouraged to make a donation to the Priest River Ministries Advocates for Women. The group is accepting diapers, feminine hygiene products, non-perishables and monetary donations. The group will also continue to accept donations throughout the holiday season.
This is the second year Matchwood is working with the program, Marcoccio said.
“They are providing safe spaces in an especially hard time for women, full families and children,” she said.
Those interested can also bring or decorate an ornament for the Gratitude Tree. Some supplies for decorating will be available at Matchwood Brewing.
Residents can also pick up craft beer and to-go food at the brewery, according to the press release.
“Our priority is spreading gratitude, not COVID,” wrote Andrea Marcoccio with Matchwood Brewery. “We have modified this year's event to be focused on the act of giving and kindness. We will light an outdoor gratitude tree and host a virtual show featuring The Powers on Facebook.”
2020 will mark the third year The Powers have performed for the event, Marcoccio said. The name of the event is also a play on words, meant to signify the power of gratitude, but also as a nod to the band.
“We have a great relationship with The Powers,” she said. “They’re a family band, and we wanted to do something that kind of refocused the holiday on giving and gratefulness.”
