The Whitefish Theatre Company is suspending most of its 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 concerns.

The theater group says it had to make some difficult decisions regarding the remainder of the season and has made changes with the safety of the community in mind and the need to keep its actors, volunteers and staff safe.

The holiday production of “The Basement Bunch presents A Very Merry Holiday Spectacular” scheduled for early December has been canceled.

The spiking increase of new cases of the virus in the county has made the risks of ongoing rehearsals too great, the theater says in a release.

Season ticket holders will automatically have tickets for next season. Those who have purchased individual tickets, can contact WTC to donate the ticket cost, get a gift certificate or receive a refund.

WTC has decided to cancel its music series for the season with four of its seven scheduled music and special events already being rescheduled to 2022. WTC is in the midst of trying to reschedule the three remaining music/special event acts into upcoming seasons, as they anticipate cancellation of additional spring tours.

WTC has decided not to produce any mainstage theatre performances during the remainder of the 2020-2021 season. “The Revolutionists,” “Sense and Sensibility,” and “Murder on the Orient Express,”all of which have larger casts and more extensive production needs, will be pushed forward to a future season.

WTC remains hopeful that they can move forward with very small two to four cast member Black Curtain productions in 2021, including “Our Mother’s Brief Affair,” “Radiant Vermin,” and “Things Being What They Are” that are already part of the season. Online productions of these shows will likely be pushed back into the spring.

WTC will honor any purchased tickets for shows that they reschedule in the future, as it is very likely that many of these shows will be offered next season. Call 862-5371 or email WTC at info@whitefishtheatreco.org with concerns or questions.
