Nov. 29, 1970 – EAGLE AWARDS

Aerie No. 589, F.O.E. presented awards Friday following a potluck dinner in the Eagles’ dining room. Harold Marley, owner of Sandpoint IGA Foodliner, received the “Builder of the Year” award for his reconstruction of the large super market at 5th and Church which burned to the ground last winter. Sheriff Robert Wilcox received the “Reverence For Law” award. The Eagles Member of the Year award went to Aerie President Frank Warrer, while Mrs. Rose Booth received the Auxiliary Member of the Year award.

COWBELLE 1971 OFFICERS ELECTED

Bonner County Cattlemen’s Assn. and CowBelles held a pinochle party Saturday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wood on Gold Creek. Prizes for the five tables of cards were awarded to Delphine Coon, Frances Poelstra, Virginia Wood, Gary Bristow, LaVerne Coon, and Bill Woolsey. The CowBelles held a short meeting, electing Myrtle Burnett as president for the coming year. Frances Crandell will be vice president and Cathy Olson secretary-treasurer.

BREAK-IN

A break-in was reported at the Western Auto Associated Store, 214 N. First Ave., Friday. Entry was gained through the rear door. Rifle ammunition and other merchandise was taken.

Nov. 29, 1920 – LICENSED TO WED

Leo Rembowski, 25, and Lucille Mercer,19, both of Laclede, prevailed upon County Auditor McCrea to grant them a marriage license Sunday. Her father is Constable Bert Mercer of Laclede.

THANKSGIVING ARRESTS

Mistaken ideas of a proper Thanksgiving celebration resulted in the arrest of two men on drunk charges by city police. Six boys were also taken by the police, charged with minor offenses as the result of creating disturbances. All six were released, however, on the request of Mrs. Margaret McBride, county probation officer, who took their behavior up with their parents.

CITY BREVITIES

But five prisoners were in the county jail for Thanksgiving dinner. Sheriff Spoor gave them a good bill upon which chicken, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie were the pieces de resistance.

Rollin Farmin, freshman at Moscow, spent the Thanksgiving recess with his parents. He was fullback on the university’s frosh football team.

ELSIE WILLI PASSES AWAY

Elsie Willi, 13-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Willi, passed away last Sunday as a result of heart trouble, resulting from a persistent attack of influenza which the girl suffered last winter. The family residence is at Lake street and Second ave. (Note: in 2020, site of the Hydra Restaurant).
