Boosterthon raises over $20,000

It was an overcast day at Farmin-Stidwell Elementary School, but that didn't stop about 430 K-6 grade students from causing a ruckus at the second annual Wolfpack Fun Run fundraiser Thursday morning.
From 8:30 a.m. until around 10:30 a.m., children ran, walked, jumped and danced around small makeshift tracks set up on the school field. One boy leapfrogged another mid-run, while others raced their friends around the tracks while pop songs played over loudspeakers.
“It’s something we all looked forward to, and it proved to be everything we hoped it would be,” said Stephanie Reimann, president of the Partners In Education parent/teacher group.
In total, 25 classes, and 430 students, covered 8,302 laps, she said.
The boosterthon raised $20,647, exceeding the original goal of $20,000, Reimann said. That money will go toward building outdoor learning spaces and improved technology access for students.
“It was a huge success,” she said. “And it was really a fun event.”
Unlike the year before, this year’s fun run was broken off into smaller groups, with each class running separately to minimize COVID-19 risks.
The year before, students ran two tracks twice. This year, there were 11 tracks run three times.
For those who would still like to donate, pledges can be made for another week on the boosterthon website.
