MOSES LAKE — Once again, K-9 Chief is coming home – but this time, it’s his likeness, etched into a clay slate by scratchboard artist Allie Raines.

Raines worked on the piece free of charge after more than 2,000 people voted for the retired officer in Raines’ Police K9 Appreciation giveaway contest, beating out hundreds of submissions from across the country.

Chief retired from the Moses Lake Police force in March after being shot in the head while chasing a suspect. After a fierce battle for his life, veterinarians won out, and Chief returned home. Though there were medical concerns which made it necessary for him to retire, he has otherwise made recovered. Now he’s chasing tennis balls and his own tail, instead of suspects.

Today, Chief lives with his former handler, Officer Nick Stewart. whose new partner, K-9 Jester, hit the streets in June.
