Main repair to disrupt water supply for some residents

SANDPOINT — Roughly 60 residents will experience a temporary disruption in water supply due to maintenance on a water main scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday on Chestnut Street between N. Boyer Ave. and N. Division Ave., according to a press release.
The work requires a significant drop in water pressure, said city Distribution Supervisor Rod Berget. Residents in affected areas have been notified of the repairs.
“This repair is unique, in part, due to the large pipe diameter and volume of water it conveys,” Berget said. “We are unable to make the repairs without completely draining a long section of the water main.”
Because the repair requires a significant drop in water pressure that could allow contamination to enter the water stream, a boil advisory has been placed in the affected areas until an independent lab test has cleared the water samples for drinking safety.
The residents in affected households are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for three minutes that will be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation.
It is anticipated that the advisory will be lifted Oct. 9. Residents will also be notified when the advisory is lifted.
