William Francis Theodore Karwacki, beloved husband and father and accomplished educator, died September 28 at the age of 88 in Moses Lake, Washington.
“Bill,” as he was known to all, was the ninth child born to Francis and Kathleen Karwacki in Prairie, Washington, on September 21, 1932. He grew up in Sedro Woolley, Washington, and excelled in many sports, especially football where he received a scholarship to Western Washington University and became a four-year letterman. After graduation, he served in the Army as a medic during the Korean War. Bill went on to pursue a career in education. It was in this he found his calling. Bill was a gifted teacher, coach, school psychologist and school principal and rose to be a superintendent for two school districts. While at college he met and married Lois Linberg. They moved to Quincy, Washington, and later settled in Moses Lake where they raised their four children.
Bill was extremely active in his children’s lives. He encouraged them to reach for the stars, but to always be humble. Athletics was always part of his life. He coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball and high school football and swimming, just to name a few. His life centered around watching his children and grandchildren in their many athletic and academic endeavors. He was always a dedicated supporter and loud cheerleader.
Though he enjoyed many things in life, he loved nothing more than being with his family, of which he was extremely proud. He loved Notre Dame football, and his children and grandchildren have fond memories of Notre Dame “game days.” He will also be remembered for his many humorous clichés. His love for animals was notable as many homeless creatures found their way into the comfort and safety of the Karwacki home. Most of all, Bill will be remembered for the inspiration and encouragement he provided to always strive to do your best and never give up. This extended not only to his family but to his colleagues and students. He helped to shape so many live with his undying support, words of wisdom (which could be lengthy at times!) and undying love.
He is survived by his loving second wife of 37 years Pennie Threlkeld Karwacki and her children Sina and Miles Hill and grandchildren Fletcher, Truett and Echo Crandall-Hill; his children Vicki (Mark) Stille, Nicki (Eddie) Krossen, Micki Fabian and William (Ramona) Karwacki; grandchildren Zac Fabian, Kennedy Krossen, Eric Stille and Billy, Bryan and Vanessa Karwacki; five great-grandchildren and special “adopted sons” Rey Pichardo and Gilbert Alvarado of Moses Lake.
The family would like to thank the staff of Summerwood Alzheimer Care in Moses Lake for their loving support during this past several years.
He is gone from our lives, but will never be forgotten.
