UPCOMING:

TRUMP-RUSSIA PROBE: President Donald Trump is ordering the declassification of information about how the FBI and intelligence agencies investigated Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign, a move his critics say is a political stunt to help him defeat Democrat Joe Biden in this year’s election. UPCOMING: 800 words, photos by 4 p.m.

ELECTION 2020-REPUBLICANS: Vulnerable Republicans candidates are taking careful but clear, steps to distance themselves from President Donald Trump, the latest sign of GOP anxiety that Trump’s crisis-to-crisis reelection bid is dragging down congressional candidates across the country. UPCOMING: 850 words, photos by 5 p.m.

SENT/DEVELOPING:

VIRUS OUTBREAK -TRUMP: President Donald Trump remained out of sight for a second day Wednesday recovering from COVID-19, but he made his presence known on social media as he tweeted broadsides against Democrats, floated false disease figures and pushed lawmakers to take up piecemeal economic aid proposals after nixing negotiations on a broader assistance package. SENT: 900 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020 -PELOSI - DISPUTED ELECTION: A single House race in Montana could determine the results of the presidential election. Or Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan or even Alaska. They are all districts where Speaker Nancy Pelosi has set out to not only expand the House majority but to win control of the states’ congressional delegations. It’s an unusual strategy in case a disputed presidential election needs to be decided by the House. SENT: 1000 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020 -ELECTION WARNINGS: The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity agency have issued a series of advisories in recent weeks aimed at warning voters about problems that could surface in the election — as well as steps Americans can take to counter the foreign interference threat. SENT: 800 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020 -FLORIDA VOTERS: Florida’s chief information officer is blaming misconfigured computer servers for the crash of the state’s voter registration system. Chief Information Officer James Grant told The Associated Press Wednesday that no one meant to deny people the right to vote, but he says the servers had been configured in a way that reduced the system’s capacity “to a fraction of a fraction of what it was capable of.” SENT: 540 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020 – TEXAS -MAIL VOTING:. The Texas Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that 2 million Houston voters cannot receive unsolicited mail ballot applications from local elections officials who are dramatically expanding ways to vote in November in the nation’s third-largest county, a key battleground in Texas. The decision by the all-Republican court is the latest defeat in a string of losses for Democrats whose efforts to change Texas voting laws during the coronavirus pandemic have largely failed. SENT: 625 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020 - INDIANA -MAIL VOTING: A federal appeals court has rejected a lawsuit that aimed to make mail-in ballots available to all Indiana voters for the November election because of the coronavirus pandemic. The record number of Indiana residents voting by mail this fall were warned to return their ballots in time to meet a noon Election Day deadline as a judge in a separate lawsuit put an extension she had ordered on hold. SENT: 600 words, photos.

TRUMP -WALL STREET -LITTLE INVESTED: For a president who has obsessively tweeted about Wall Street and taken credit for its gains, Donald Trump doesn’t have much of his own money in the game. The Associated Press has found that after he reportedly dumped more than $200 million in stocks and bonds in the years leading up to his inauguration, as much as $8 million more was sold after he took office. SENT: 1170 words, photos.

DEBATE COVERAGE:

ELECTION 2020- DEBATE: Vice President Mike Pence and his Democratic challenger, California Sen. Kamala Harris, are poised to meet for a debate that will offer starkly different visions for a country confronting escalating crises. The faceoff Wednesday night in Salt Lake City is the most highly anticipated vice presidential debate in recent memory. SENT: 1200 words, photos. Will be updated.

ELECTION 2020 -DEBATE -VIEWERS GUIDE: Mike Pence and Kamala Harris do not have a tough act to follow. The vice presidential debate set for Wednesday night follows the disorderly prime-time spectacle last week that had viewers of President Trump and Joe Biden’s matchup bemoaning the moderator’s inability to shut off a candidate’s microphone. What to watch: SENT: 900 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020 -DEBATE -THE SCENE: Patriotic flair and plexiglass dominate the stage for Wednesday’s vice presidential debate between Mike Pence and Kamala Harris. Each candidate will have a clear partition on the side of their desk that faces the other, and they will be spaced more than 12 feet apart. Other pandemic-friendly changes include audience chairs spaced roughly 6 feet apart and requirements that everyone entering the hall test negative for the virus and wear a mask.
