OTHELLO — The Othello Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an all-city farmers market this Saturday, Oct. 10. Instead of being held in one location, the market will be held at various businesses around Othello.

“This is a one-time event to help everyone get their lives back together,” said Sharon Skorick, manager of the Othello Chamber of Commerce. “Go out and support our local businesses.”

This summer, the Othello Chamber of Commerce hosted the Othello Farmers Market. Due to COVID-19 regulations, the number of vendors was limited. The number of attendees present in the market at one time was also restricted. Skorick wanted to have one more farmers market where everyone in town could participate.

“I thought, why not have it like a progressive market and spread it throughout the city,” Skorick said.

The farmers market will open at 10 a.m. and will include various businesses around Othello. There will also be vendors at Lions and Pioneer parks.

“We decided to bring back some of the good old fair food,” Skorick said.

Some of the vendors involved will be donating their proceeds to Othello nonprofits. Sunny Farms, next to Walmart, will be hosting a pumpkin patch from 9 a.m. until dusk. Proceeds will go to the Othello Special Olympics team. Anytime Fitness is selling nutritional foods, with proceeds going to “A Christmas Miracle on Main Street.”

In addition to vendors, there will be other events and activities happening. The Abraham Lincoln Rail Car will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aly Hesselroth, an Othello High School graduate, will be performing live music on the Pioneer Park gazebo stage from 2 to 6 p.m.

There will be a free children’s Halloween movie, “Happy Halloween Scooby Doo,” at Reichert’s Showhouse. The movie will begin at 11 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Masks are required and temperatures will be checked. Seating for the movie is limited.

In addition to the farmers market, there will be a Freedom Farmland Ride for bicyclists of all ages. There will be a five-mile and a 20-mile option for the ride, which will incorporate Othello’s bike path. The ride starts at 11 a.m., north of the gazebo at Lions Park, near the water tower. There is no charge to participate in the bike ride.

“This year, it is important to get people back into things,” Skorick said. “We want to encourage people to get out and enjoy something they can do with family.”
