EPHRATA — A Moses Lake man was sentenced to 90 days in the Grant County jail for grabbing a woman by the neck and pinning her against a door, according to court records.

Homero Chavez, 33, pleaded guilty last week to second-degree assault, with strangulation or suffocation.

Officers responded to East Mizzou Court on July 6 for a report of a man threatening to kill a woman and her children. The two had gotten into an argument, according to a police report, when Chavez reportedly got angry, grabbed a pair of scissors and began to threaten to kill the woman and her children.

Chavez had reportedly tried to leave the room when the victim got in his way, which is when he grabbed her by the neck and pushed her against the door. The victim later told police that she couldn’t breathe and thought she was going to pass out.

The victim feared for the lives of herself and her children, according to the police report. In addition to his three-month sentence, Chavez was ordered to relinquish all firearms to Moses Lake Police Department until Jan. 20, 2021.
