SANDPOINT — Idaho Rep. Heather Scott singled out Gov. Brad Little, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden and Sandpoint Mayor Shelby Rognstad as "tyrants" during a People's Rights forum on Thursday.

"We can identify every tyrant out there," Scott, a Blanchard Republican, told her political followers, who filled the building to capacity for what organizers said was an instructional effort to get citizens politically involved in Idaho.

Scott urged constituents not to be cowed by local elected officials and said the meaningful change occurs at the local level.

"What I see here is a force to be reckoned with," Scott said.

Scott contends the state and the city are overstepping their authority in their handling of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

"You cannot have a lower law trump a higher law," said Scott, who argues God's law remains supreme in Idaho. The worldwide virus struggle, meanwhile, was forecasted in the Bible's Revelations, according to Scott.

Scott's appearance at the event drew a small group of opponents, who stood at the corner of Division and Pine with "Love Lives Here" placards.

Scott drew applause when quoting Proverbs about the easiness with which a government can be toppled by the public.

"It's going to take time," said Scott, who added that moral rot has been allowed to fester in government.

Scott called upon supporters to seek seats on the Bonner General Health and East Bonner County Library district boards over their requirements for facial coverings during the pandemic.

"Focus, locally, is critical," Scott said.

Scott also called for a boycott of local media, social media and businesses which advertise in the local media.

Scott further argued that the reqionalization of government should be thwarted.

"Regionalizing governments are a way of destroying the republic," said Scott.
