Eight-year-old airlifted to hospital after Wednesday collision

GRANT COUNTY — Two people were hospitalized after a two-car collision on state Route 17 near milepost 44-5 Wednesday, including an 8-year-old who had to be airlifted to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Isabel Ramirez, 27, of Moses Lake, was driving with an 8-year-old girl northbound on state Route 17 behind a second vehicle driven by Rosalio Perez, 68, of Othello. According to law enforcement, Perez attempted to make a left turn onto a farm road when Ramirez, who was following too close, struck him from behind.
Ramirez was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. Perez was not injured.
All parties were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident, and neither alcohol nor drugs is believed to have been involved, according to law enforcement.
