Runners braved a cold start at the inaugural Whitefish Trail race. Proceeds from the registration fees and post-race raffel went to the Whitefish Legacy Partners to continue developing the trail.

The F.H. Stoltze lumber mill had just invested $4 million in a new curved sawing gang. The major investment was made to get the most lumber possible out of every log.

A racetrack was under development south of Whitefish and was creating a stir among neighboring residents who had concerns over it disrupting their rural lifestyle. The development was causing Flathead County officials to look into zoning highway corridors such as Highway 93.

Oct. 23, 1980

Recycling of beverage containers was about to get a lot easier. Flathead Industries for the Handicapped, Inc. was planning to open up a booth at least one day a week in the old Safeway parking lot to buy back cans and bottles.

Oct. 22, 1970

Construction on Wisconsin Avenue was a headache to deal with for the Whitefish City Council. The council was discussing technical difficulties in pro-rating and splitting the cost of new city sewer lines between builders of the Viking Lodge and the Urban Developers, Inc. who was building a new subdivision in the area.
